Q: I have to ask an “Avengers” question. (Johansson played Black Widow.) Did you have any idea it would be so huge?
A: When we were making “Avengers,” Joss knew what he wanted. He was very specific. That conviction that he has made, I think, all of us as actors feel very safe. He’s a storyteller obviously by trade — he’s a writer. He was very emphatic that we all participate in the development of our roles. We had some really interesting traits about my character’s plight, her past. I saw that when I read the script. “Oh wow, the conversations that we had are right here, on the page.” I felt fairly confident he would be able to pull it off.
